Hi, what was to be a great season went south on me. I went away while my seedlings were starting to take off, but still in their peat pots (largeish). During a mini heat wave in that week, my in-laws decided to move them without supporting the vines and then left them without any water. I came back to life support plants. I had to start all over again at a point most would consider too late in the season. To make things worse, a tall tree shifted and it's foliage is significantly reducing the amount of direct sunlight the plants are getting. My plants are healthy, but behind in growth due to inadequate lighting. In a desperate attempt to get anything out of them, I'm considering adding in a growing light to supplement what's missing. Is this any help? How long and how close should i place the lamp?

in all honesty the best advise i would give at this late point in the season? start planning for a better attempt next year.much to late to get any results.

next year if at all possible dont leave your seedling to anyones care but your own

try and trim that tree for more sunlight or better yet if possible find a new spot.

test your soil-read some books-study - study - study

oh ya, dont forget to wish for mother nature to protect you from hail-wind-rain-bugs and disease

Come to the weightoff on October 1st at Krause Berry Farm & Estate Winery in Langley, get some seeds and meet the other local growers. You will be able to talk pumpkins, soil, growing patterns and likely meet a mentor for next year that can help you meet your pumpkin goals in 2017.

Pap Wallace is too modest to mention his great book "Dick's Tips II" Available thru the SNGPG website.
