Do you guys measure from the center of the stump to the main vine or the end leaves to the main vine, for total length?

Ha yeah I'm with pork chop I imagine a length of a 2x4 and think, that's about 8,10,12 feet out or something. No need to be any more precise than that.

I measure from the center of the stump, to the tip of the mainvine.

I just eyeball the center of the stump and use a spare stake (6') or even my shoe length toe to heel to the end of the vine (give or take). Anywhere outside of the patch where you can eyeball the distance is close enough.

Early on, before the plant gets too big, you can measure 10' from the stump and place a stick there(where the main will grow to). Then you can get your measurements easier, without having to crawl into the plant. Later you can move the stick to 15' or whatever.
