Friendly note to the new or 1st time growers. Don't bury your vines too early nor too deep. Reason why? The Male flowers.

If the males are completely buried, they'll never develop. You are going to need to pollinate that female right?

Only cover the leaf nodes with soil to help with rooting.

Prolly 2"... I have light fluffy soil so I dump about 5-6" over the vines ...rain and the hose wash it down to an inch or two before it's packed with roots...

We try to bury by scooping soil from under the leaf nodes adding ammendments and burying with compost / potting soil at least for the first 20 feet or so then just bury the suckers before your over run! I try to pinch off all tertiaries and mound around the male flowers. if they get a little buried they alwayys seem to pop up.
