I was looking over the diaries, and I don't see any growers from Central America, Florida Keys, Caribbean, etc. I would think with the really long growing seasons in these areas, it would be the the prime location for record breakers.

Is it that those locations just don't know about big pumpkins? Or is it that there is an upper limit for seasonal temperatures that preclude growing there?

Just curious really. :)

I think keauno surfer girl and prince jack are pretty close to the equator.

AGs tend to have a sweet spot in the northern US and southern Canada. Temps aren't too high and the days are longer compared to down south. I'd imagine it's similar in Europe. I was in Mexico by the Belize border on the Caribbean in May,and it felt way too hot to grow. The sun is much more intense there too, and AGs tend to burn. Now California is a whole different animal.

That makes sense. It was Surfer Girl that made me think of this actually. :)

Still, a little light-shade cloth and an evaporator cooling fan could push the growing zone down south a little bit. ;)

(Evaporative fans are fans that pull air through a damp screen. The evaporation drops the temp quite a bit -- popular for greenhouse growing. Though it's not as a effective when the humidity is really high... Hmm. I guess that's not a big help in Columbia.)
