I read a lot of posts that mostly the first female flower is skipped and not pollinated. Waiting until a flower is past 8'. Is it better to have more plant prior to setting a flower?

I consider when,how far out on plant. If the pumpkin is less than 10 feet out or earlier than june 20th I wouldn't pollinate. I'm trying to grow biggest possible and take to a contest -so I'm aiming for a 90 to 105 day old fruit on a big plant. If your growing for one to keep to Halloween then pollinate around july 10th on whatever size plant. So it depends on your goal.

It depends and at least one world record in current history was grown at a distance less than 10'. Also if temperature will be high in the next couple of weeks it may be a good idea to pollenate the flower. I can be a backup if the others abort. It is better to have a badly located fruit than none at all.

I am going completely off of memory here but i believe the 1725 Harp world record was grown at about 8' on the Main vine. I always pollinate everything and make my decision as to which one to keep later on based on what i think will end up giving me the biggest fruit.

Hi Everyone.I have 2 robust growing 2032,s growing at a good clip.Growing in a tree pattern and mains on each failed to put out females that would actually open up to become pollinated.Both plants are twins in appearance and both did same thing on main at around 15 feet out.Those were the only females on both plants to that point on mains and now i see new fresh ones at around 20 feet on the way.My question is if these fail to bloom should i consider secondary vine and if so which one ? furthest from stump or closest?Had many/all that i removed before they opened.both plants have first secondaries on each side at least 12 feet long.Was going to do christmas tree pattern.Both were germinated on 4/13/15.

I saw a pic. with Male flowers in a cup of water waiting for pollination day. Will they last a couple of days kept in water prior to pollinating and still work? this is if timing of pollinators is off.
