Does anybody turn their heating cables back on in the fall when night temps start to drop. They are only under a very small portion of the plant at this point. Would it even help with pumpkin growth or does soil temp just help with root growth?

i use them in the fall after the temps drop,, but only till the roots are dead

The heating cables that have the automatic thermostats don't have to be turned off at all, all season long, they will turn off when the soil temp raises above 74 degrees and turn on when it drops below 74.

Well I doubt my soil temperature ever got above 74 all summer up here. Our Air temperature didn't even average 74 for the summer. I didn't want to leave it on burning electricity all summer.
