My pumpkin has some pretty deep groves or ridges in it. When measuring end to end, do I stay right along the line of the blossom and stem? If so, I am measuring with my tape in a deep ridge that grows slow compared to the raised ridges to either side. If I measure from the highest point on one of those ridges I would not be in the center.

For CC, it says to measure at the widest point. What if the widest point is 2 inches off the ground and it narrows as you move up? I have just been measuring at the blossom\stem level.

My ranges are 75 pounds different and would like to get a decent estimate. Thanks

Over The TOPPPPPP! (can´t believe the summit is hidden in the ridge)

...and there´s a reason (or more than one) for the top giving a more reasonable estimate than the valley: (1) Just imagine the view at a side-to-side cross-section through the ridges. Both the mountains and the valleys are idealized triangles, but they aren´t ideal. The fruitless area is smaller than the idealized triangle, the wall-filled area is bigger. Thus, taking the mountains into account should give an estimate closer to the real weight (you can do both measurements before getting the weigh-off done on your pumpkin and let me know if I was right or wrong. (2) You can imagine that there´s a fundamental wall thickness below the bottom level of the valleys rather than these places being particularly thin. Thus, your pumpkin should benefit from the hills as additional wall thickness (go heavier) instead of suffering light weight from thin-wall valleys. Time will tell, the day will come when you cut it open...please do a side-to-side cross-section through the upper half of the pumpkin and post the pictures in your diary...I´m quite confident that I´m not the only one who´s now curious to see if I was right or wrong.

Hey Luke, better to under-estimate and have the pumpkin go heavy on you rather than be disappointed at the weighoff when your pumpkin goes light cause you went heavy with the tape.....

Looks to me like your kin is gonna weigh heavy anyways...so it is all good!!

Thanks P.K.

Glenn, I'm gonna need 100% heavy to be a contender.

I'd say you'll be a contender Luke...

Luke, you can measure in the valley's if you choose to, but the folks at the GPC weighoff's(Trained Pro's) are gonna go by the GPC rules, which state... the largest parallel to the ground for CC, the largest ss, and the largest ee, measurements!!! GPC, says largest/parallel to the ground. I think the reason for following these parameters(rules) is to get the same results from awl!!! It's also, the way the ott charts, estimate yer weights. Grow em BIG!!! Peace, Wayne
