Have a stump that is oozing badly, top part seems to be gone. Two mains on this plant, one with good size pumpkin started and most secondary vines coming off this vine. Should I cut out stump and hope for the best. The two mains still look good only one side is wilting and its the one without pumpkin. Trying to dry out with fan, but still pretty wet.

sounds like a foaming stump/ ( a whitish liquid ) id advise cutting or drilling a hole from top of base thru the bottom to allow liquid to drain out ----you dont what this crap traveling down the main vine or it will rot the main. if you suspect the liquid had run down into the first couple ft of the main? slit the top of the main. take out a narrow piece to expose the inside of the main. if you find foam? cut out some more from the top of the main until you no longer see the foam. rinse area with bleach and water solution, sprinkle some sulfer or any good fungicide into the open area. then pray.

Thanks for the info. Doesnt seem to be white foam may just be a rotting stump. uncovered some of the main just past junction of mains and looks ok still has a green tint to vine. If I cut stump out up to this junction will whole plant die, or can the secondaires support the plant. Alot of wilting in the 98 degree heat today but still seems to be just the vine without the pumpkin.

cutting out the base will not shut the plant/pumpkins growth down. the side vineswill feed the fruit. if its rotted?, its not contributing to the growth anyways-right.

I guess your right. Cut base this morning, peroxide and baking soda paste applied. Trying to dry it out now. Should I cover it up after it dries out? Or leave it alone. Thank you for your help.

id try and keep it dry in the area just around the stub --- at least until your sure all the rotted (or effected ) area is cleared up. after that it should be ok if it gets wet.

Its been a tough week, rain almost every night, [downpours]. Couple more stumps looking bad. Also if I clean them up what is the best powder to put on them. I have herd sulfur and or captains. The plant I cut stump on is still growing, has about 17 lbs big max on it and is only 12 days old. Have one more pumpkin that were the stem goes to vine looks wet and brown. Im new at this, any help would be great.

I am growing big max pumpkins this year, just wondering how big they may get and also what is the record. Are these pumpkins in the ag family or the field pumpkin class.

I am growing Big Max as well. They are the same type as AG and will cross pollinate. A huge B Max would be 300 lbs. I have heard in the chat room of possible 500lb weights. One good thing...they are always orange.

Pumpkins have slowed down, put 0-0-60 last week and some 0-0-12. Both in granule form, don't think I put enough. Hom much is too much. I put about two pounds of 60, and half pound of 12. Want to break 100'pound mark. Biggest is measuring around 58'pounds with no ridges yet. Also spray fish 5-1-1 once a week. What do I need to do to get them really growing? That app was per plant.

I'm growing big max this year, have one pushing 100lbs, not sure when they are ready. The skin is still soft, just wondering if the big pumpkin skin gets as hard as the little varieties? Vines are starting to go away, probably have two weeks left maybe three left for vines. Just learning and this year growing them for family. Side note, direct sow the seeds in first week of June. Most Pollunations were done at end of July . Also have a couple That are only 15days old.

CP, IMHO 100#'s for a field pkn (big max) is sorta on the HUGE side!!! Early weighoff's (3rd wknd in Sept) in Kentucky and wknd after in N.C. (Yadkin Valley)? Several recent post's have me a bit confused...big max is curcubita pepo, I think...and AG's are curcubit maxima, I think...and have heard they DO NOT cross pollinate?(Boy, do I ever have a headache now!!!) Peace, Wayne

I'm pretty sure big max and ag will cross. I need to know when to pick them and store them. Like I said they are still soft, I can press on them with my thumb and they still give. Need to know if the big ones get hard like the field kins. Have one that's done growing or is still growing very slowly and is already turning orange. It's a small one that vine split at stem maybe 40lbs. Great plant but split really hurt this kin. Don't want it to rot, but It also is still very plyable.

Have a problem with one of my big max. Little brown spots are showing on skin. Not sure what it is, also have seen little black bugs under some leaves. Could something be bitting on my pumpkin? Going to spray with fungicide and seven tomorrow. Back to the spots they are on the top of kin in direct sun. Don't want to lose this big max it's atleast 100 lbs. Any help would be appreciated.
