I have a plant that the main vine is nearly 14ft long but there is only one secondary vine coming off of it and it is close to the stump. What causes this and is it going to be a major problem?

Are you burying the main vine? Last year (my 1st year) I was burying the main vine too soon and causing the secondaries not to grow. Luckily, I figured out what I was doing and waited until the secondaries were a few inches long before burying the main.

You probably buried too soon and choked them out. I did this and lost the first two secondaries on the left side before I realized what was happening. Make sure that the vine is long enough to stay above the dirt before you bury the node.

I have not buried the main for that reason. I learned on this site that the secondary vines won't grow so I did not bury the main yet. The secondarys started and stopped after about 3 or 4 inches. My other plant has numerous secondary vines and both plants have been treated the same.
