We had a pretty wicked storm pass through here last night and alot of the leaves connected to the main vine broke (right where they meet the main). Some are broken in half, some are just flopped over and cracked. So my question is what do I do with these? Just cut them off right at the main. Should I apply something after I cut them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Prop up as many as you can with a bamboo stake and zip ties. One of my plants has 1/4 of the leaves like that. This was advised to me by multiple people. The leaves will still function.

With the heat and humidity here, the leaf stalks soon fill with water and start to rot. If this rot gets in main vine it will kill your plant. That is what happens here I cut off broken leaves as soon as I can. If you notice any wilting of the broken leaves you better act fast and get them off.

You may want to put up a windbreak before the next storm hits. I used 4ftx50ft of 4 mil plastic sheeting that I got at TSC for $10. I used 4 steel stakes on the corners and some wooden stakes just for extra support between the steel ones. I placed the sheeting on the south and west sides of my plant. I too got nailed by that storm yesterday with 60mph winds. I only lost one leaf thanks to the windbreak. My sweet corn was leveled though. I am fairly new to this pumpkin thing but this worked for me. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and cut them off :-( sure made the plant look small.
