I have a bunch of ants crawling all over 1 of my plants. they are a very small red ant. they don't seem to be doing any direct harm to the plant. should I hit them with rotenone and pyrethrum?

Ive got ants real bad, there setting up shop at the base of plants, been taking them out with sevin dust lightly sprinled around hills ,afraid there tunneling will effect root system,I found 1 huge hill 4x4 under a tree 50 feet from patch, nuked with diazinon granules, will nuke again,I hope no uncles show up!!lol

I have had plants killed by yellow ants that eat the roots off. I wouldn't take chances and get rid of them.

Ants harvest aphids, they transport them from plant to plant. Aphids secret a nectar called honeydew which the ants love.
Fairly gross....lol
