I was over eager in moving the main vine and caused a crosswise split through 3/4 of the vascular tissue. I cut off the end and treated with captan. I lost 8 inches of a 3 foot vine. what is the best way to train the vine from this point? secondaries are just starting to show. I've seen references to a second main vine, but I don't know what to look for to distinguish a second main from secondaries off the now truncated main. I have 3 other plants, one of which has a lengthwise split from wind damage, but that hn't slowed it down.

Use the secondary closest to the break and train it as you would the main vine. The vines which come off this new "main" will actually be tertiaries, but you will train them as you would your secondaries. You should still do well.
