when should you remove the ring around the plant?

After the stem gets big enough that the cutworm can not wrap itself around it --- so about 1 1/2 inches or so in circumference should be safe.

Go out at 11:00 pm you can pick up cut worms like nite crawlers,I would leave on as long as possible!I use sevin Dust instead of rings covers more inscects!

carbaryl kills worms period the good and bad even night crawlers it can also smoke leafs ages plant quick

thats good to know,I havent used much this year I figure the cut worms drown in all the water,still cloudy today but warmer,Wheres the SUN???

I have no idea what a cut worm looks like. Do we have them on Long Island? Can anyone send me a picture of one?
Also, when you put the coffee can around the seedling, do you bury it?
If I just put the can around the plant it would be way to high wouldn't it?

I just googled the damn things. I am going out right now and putting the coffee can around my plant.

wally,i just used plastic nursery pots and cut them about an inch and a half deep with a cut on it to get it around the plant,then put it flush with the soil.they live in the top inch or two of the soil this is y.coffee can is fine tho.look at my diary......master p

The coffee can idea sucks. I put one out there tonight but its out of there in the morning. I like your idea much better. The coffee can is way to high, and I cant possibly see how I would be able to train my plant down with that stupid can around it. Tomorrow I am going with your idea, plus I think I will get some of that Diatomaceous earth, and some sevin powder. I plan to put both, in a circle around the plant, not on it.
What happens after water? Do you have to reapply the d earth and the poison powder?
