Are there any pictures or easiest explanations to show me how and what vines to cut and bury when the time comes? I'm first timing big pumpkins. Thanks.

Last year was my first time and I made the mistake of burying the main early on and keeping the secondaries from growing. Either don't bury the main or bury it only after the secondaries start growing.
This year I'm planing on taking my hoe and making a trough for the secondary to grow in and bury it as I go along. Sprinkle a little blood meal under the secondary before burying it.
Burying the secondaries a few inches down should be good enough.
This is only my second year so I'm no expert. Just wanted to share some of the changes that I'm planning to make this year. One of the big changes, don't bury the main until the secondaries start growing.

Good Question, I have wondered about that also, Last year I think I covered to heavy on the main and kept some of the females from coming on. Is that possible???

Search "vine burying" on the site search. Spend some more time here on BP.com & search some diaries from the previous years.
There are clubs in Wi.w/ members that will give you a tutorial just have to seek them out.
Good Luck!

Is there a huge benefit to bury the main? I have drainage problems if we were to get any hard rain and I fear if I bury the main it will rot because of the poor drainage. I plan to bury the secondaries, but not the main. The only reason I am doing this is to help during high winds. Will I get any benefits from this?
