I have noticed many cots are curled once the seeds germinate. On my 1101, they are completely curled backwards folding under and touching the stem, but still green. Does anyone know if this is a genetic thing, too much nitrogen etc? My planting medium does have a little fertilizer, but all other plants are just fine.
Thanks

I got one out of 13 extremely twisted up but still should be fine ccuz the first true leaf looks good. With a little less solar reception with the twisting will slow the plant down a little compared to the others, but not too much. Let them prove out competing against a bak up planted side by side. A super slow starter will be the result of a club root in my experience. Uprooted a backup today that broke ground but was way behind in development. Nasty club root was the reason. But a curly cot plant that developes first true leaves correctly is fine in most cases.

Thanks Shazzy. Another question though, what is a club root?

This is a good pic of a club root. It is a radical that comes out with a club end. I started my seeds directly in seed starter mix, so I didn't know at first it was a club. It sprouted and pushed dirt then sort of went into limbo and didn't grow at all and then slowly started to grow. It was one of multiple backups so I just pulled it and investigated to see why. This pictured club root at least has multiple root shoots coming of the club. Mine only had 4 small roots coming off the club. Some clubs catch up and are fine. But when I see a plant lagging way behind the others this early, I pull it unless top notch seed.

Shazzy, due to your extreme knowledge, I want to pose a 2ndary ?... Is club root related to double or twin vines? Peace, Wayne
