MasterP - I've grown a plant in flag pattern in a 25' x 15' for the past couple of years and got a 728 lb first year and then an 808 lb from that spot last year.

Run your main vine along the 20' line and have your secondaries on one side growing out to 15' each.

It can be done!!

Alex B from Minnesota grew a 700 pounder in 105 sq feet. Like Glenn noted above it can be done. See below.

My son grew a 475 lb kin in less than 100 sq. ft. patch.
So 300 sq.ft. patch should be good.

Doc Liggett grows in 400 to 600 sq ft and look what he grows every year.

I been thinking about this alot the last few years and I think maybe to much of something isn't always a good thing when your wanting to grow these pumpkins to 1500 or more lbs.

This year Im going to do something different by growing my plants alot smaller in the 500 to 700 sq ft range and also by setting my pumpkin in alot closer to the stump about 10 to 14 ft out on the main instead of growing my usual 800 to 1000 sq ft of plant and having the pumpkin set at 15 to 20 ft out on the main vine.

I think having a plant 1000sq ft or more, and your pumpkin sitting way out at the 20 to 25 ft mark ,in my personal opinion, is way to much plant and alot of that plants energy ends up going somewhere else instead of it all going to the main sink (the pumpkin). Again, just my personal opinion by what I have seen other growers grow and also what I have grown over the years.

Anyone disagree or agree?

Pete Mohr grew over 1000 pounds each of last 3 years in about 250 sq feet I think. His last one was 1306.
