I've saved a section of 2009 Langevin SS#2 vine with roots in a bucket w/soil, no amendments, put it in the underground wellhouse for the winter. Will I have a jump start on next season? Has anyone had any luck attempting such wishfull behavior? Any tips? It's been down there two weeks, vowed I'd not peek till spring!! BSD David

BIG SHOW
unless you have a very in demand piece from a plant that produced a record breaker or a cutting from a plant grown from a seed that is very rare? to me its not worth the work and worry all winter.( ya really need to know what your doing to have a chance for success when cloning)
i would advise starting fresh with good seed/seeds in the spring.especially being a new grower.

I don/'t think the plant will make it in the environment that you describe. But I'm no expert. If you REALLY want to grow the clone you might want to read this.

Big Show Dog-
I am not sure how your off-season weather is but in the North East cloning is a tricky process done in a protected greenhouse setting.
You can see my process posted in my diary from January 6th, 2010 to April 9th, 2010

Your best bet would be to start from seed in my opinion. As clones have not been trialed as much as seeds and still may need a refinement. (Others and I are working on this refinement ;-)

So, we're leaning to the 'wishfull but probably not a successfull endevor'! We'll see in the spring. Won't cost me a thing to let it sit there! Thanks, BSD, David
