Lost my first two around 200 to PM I think. I kept it under control on my third plant. Now I have a blossom end split on my third. The growth had slowed with cooler weather, then we got another week of hot weather and ka-boom. The split is 3" long and 1/2" wide. Is there anything I can do for it to keep it alive? Weigh off is Sep. 25th. I know i'll be DQ'ed but I would love to see how much it weighs. Last measure was 316lbs. Can it get bigger after it splits?

I had a blossom end split and it was getting soft and rotting within a week. Even the seeds were turning black with mold. Sorry to disappoint, but I don't think the prognosis is good. The only thing I could think of is putting it in a walk in fridge as is used in wild game preservation. That may slow it down a bit, but no guarantees. My fruit was not really mature/firm so maybe yours could last longer, especially in this cooler weather.

If you want to weigh it, call around to find some scales that will weigh your truck or trailer. Recycle centers are a good place, landfills, landscaping supply or quarries that sell rock, sand, gravel. Weigh empty, then load it up and go weigh again.

I thought about doing that cntryboy. Thanks. I was also hoping that it wouldn't rot to quick like Matt said. Oh well, at least I learned alot this year....and I have some rotten pumpkins to prove it. lol.

I'm on about strike 12, failed germinations, in the ground mid May, side vines that stopped, 2 aborts, and to top it off the seeds I got from a cross that were under developed as it is but thought I might be able to get started with some TLC got eaten by some critter that wandered into my shop. Anything and everything can happen I guess.

I had a BES last year and liquid nails kept it going for about 12 more days!
