Does this mean its done growing or will it keep going?
My pumpkin is about 30 days old and I think its about 150 lbs. I have had it covered from the sun with a bed sheet the whole time. It has just started to turn orange this past week. The surface still seems to be glossy.

Is orange at day 30 a bad sign?

at 30 days old an atlantic giant usually should not be changing color. the tale is in the tape though. you will know when you measutre in a few days.

Wally, is it still shiny? Check out this diary from 2008. It's orange early, but keeps going. Mine turned orange early and stopped at 25 days. It's a generic seed though.

I forgot to measure it today. I will remember tomorrow.
I will also post my results. I planted a small tree today.
It is a Dappled willow. About 4 feet tall. I am so tired from digging the huge hole, wheelbarrow, topsoil, compost, peat moss, fertilizer, water. It took me about 6 hours to plant this tree. Tomorrow its back to my pumpkin.

I have had the bad boy covered up since day one.
I see a lot of big and orange in the diaries that are still growing. I hope my bad boy is one of those.
The seed is a Richards 1159 from P and P. My other plant is a
DeBacco 896. I`m not sure if they crossed or not.
Today I measured and the circumference is 84"
the side to side is 60", and the stem to blossom is 30"
This gives me an OTT of 174
This bad boy is standing straight up so that might account for the big difference in weight between the OTT and the circumference weight est.
I will measure again in a few days. I just hope its still growing.

Maybe I got one of these:

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=142931

The more and more I look at all the diaries, the more and more that I see big and orange in the patch. They are not on a scale, they are still in the patch so I have to assume that they are still growing. Thus, for now, I will also assume that mine is still growing. Like Pap said, "the tale is in the tape". I will know for sure in a few days.

Its been three days and YES!!! its still growing. I measured it today and its now 88" dia. and its 34" side to side.
That's a 4 inch gain everywhere in just 3 days.
It looks bigger too.
I think these numbers translate into about 10 lbs. per day.
I cant wait to measure it again in another 3 days.

Another 3 days, another 5" in the Circumference. That's about 30lbs according to the chart. 10lbs. a day. I guess its definitely still growing.

97 inches this morning. that's 4" in 4 days. that's 34 lbs.

Up to 233 lbs now according to the circumference chart.

That's a 34 lb gain in 4 days. cold nights have slowed it down to 8 lbs per day.

The summer is back here on long Island! Nothing but hot and sunny for the next 7 days.

Thanks luke. I drenched with a few gals of fish tonight.

In also did some pruning. I have to be careful not to prune to much. Only the dead stuff. If I start cutting off the leaves that are just old and ugly I would have no leaves left. As it is now, the first 10 feet or so of vine is just vine. no leaves. They are all long gone.
