I have been growing pumpkins for the last 5 years. My biggest to date has been 275. In he past I have used miracle grow 15-15-15 at the roots and foliar spray and plenty of water at roots and over head. Last year I dealt with mildew and this year some of the vines and leaves are turning yellow. I want to step things up. I am planing on using the fertilizer program on Extreme Pumpkin next year. And using misting sprinklers for under and over the plant. Also thinking of running the foliar spray thru the misters. I am looking for some helpful hints to get on my to 1000# or more.

Can I see a picture? There is a disease going around that causes yellow leaves. Hopefully you don't have it. It most likely is a nutrient problem though.

Hey, I'm probably the closest grower near you. You could come by and see my patch next year if you want to. I would say this year but I lost everything.

hey falcon, check your soil. I have been growing for a few years also and I have gotten larger pumpkins every year. I feel the seeds, soil and sunlight have made a huge difference. Keep it simple, don't rush the pumpkins they will grow. Pick the right pumpkin off the main and let it grow, don't be to fussy. Pick a good seed stock next year and use myco, bury vines , trim where it's needed and recognize what the pumpkin needs during it's stages of life. lol

Best thing you can do is join a club in your area and learn from the experienced growers in your club. There are two very good clubs in Ohio, the OVGPG and SOGPG, and there's nothing that says you can't join both. :)

Falcon, Find someone in your area that is experienced, consistantly successful, join the local clubs, and be cautious about the advice you take, unfortunately there are alot of people that give tons of bad advice. Check the diarys, you can see year to year who is growing well and who is full of steam. Feel free to email us at sales@extremepumpkinstore.com. Tom

Like Tom said, look through a lot of diaries and you will see who knows what they are doing. I learned a ton from searching through diaries over the past year. I went from a 200 pounder to some real nice ones this season.Everything I learned was from doing research on this site. Lee

I was not trying to say I know much. Because I am far away from that. Just if you want to see my patch sometime. If you want really good advice talk to people who consistently get over 1000 lbs. not me

Nic Nitrate, My plant looks just like yours did. And I have been fighting beetles for the last month.

I don't think it is the same thing. My leaves did not get burnt and crispy. I honestly have no idea what you have. Maybe someone else knows.

Falcon-64 How do I get to your photos? Could you have downy mildew? I'm near Rochester NY and have a bad case of it here on my 15 acres of field pumpkins. I even have it on my giants after using a rotation of different fungicides. I checked "North American disease forecast center" and there are 5 locations in Ohio that show problems with it.
