my stump has been slowly rotting over the last couple of weeks. When it completely goes ....I'm thinking about cutting the rotten part ,then hit it with fungicide and root hormone and throw some dirt on it
anyone think it will root?

In my opinion, if you've opened it up/drilled hole to drain it and tried a fan to dry it out and let it heal, and it is still rotting (especially if the liquid is not clear and smells), cut it off until there is clean white vine. You don't want the bad crap getting to the pumpkin. The tap roots on the vine will keep feeding the pumpkin. I cut the stump and 5 side vines off to get to a place past where the rot had affected, and mine was only rotting for about 6 days. AndI still blew the dang thing up with a 2.5 inch rain after that.

the only place it will root is from the leaf nodes with the stump removed. When you remove the stump the roots at each node will thicken up a bit due to the natural response of the plant. In my opinion!
