its now a tangled mess I've been trying to clip all the terts off as they climb up out of the patch. It's almost imposible to find them all as they emerge. since the roots will not be in the dirt on most of them would it be more benificial to just follow the secondaries and clip all terts off? or wiil the leaves on the terts help the pumpkin?

Jungle style you say ? LOL I only grew 1 plant jungle style this year. If you have a pumpkin set just cut off any new growth. Youll probably do more damage than good trying to cut off alot of tertiaries at this point.

Due to a work trip, illness and surgery, my vines got out of control too. To avoid stepping on good vines and compacting the soil, I taped a sharp knife to a pole and used that to terminate the pop-up tertiaries. With the limited sun my patch gets and all the cloudy weather this year, a few more leaves shouldn't hurt too much.
