My pumpkin developed into a sort of wheel and is now forming a bulge that I'm sure if it continues to grow will cause the pumpkin to fall over. I've posted a couple of the latest pics here.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with stabilising these shaped pumpkins? Many thanks

My 1136 looked alot worse than that last year and it made it to the scale. As the pumpkin grows it should have a base good enough to support that bulging forehead. Just think of how thick the stem end of the pumpkin is and how much it weighs. That forehead would have to be made of concrete to tip that pumpkin over. Just my opinion.

Actually, I didn't even think of where most of the weight would be distributed. Sure enough the shoulders do hold a hefty chunk of the overall weight don't they? Suppose they will be acting as a counter balance. Thanks for the reassurance Caleb. Another lesson learnt!

use sand bags to hold it the way you want it.

Thanks for the suggestion waynena. It is currently rocking around on a pivot at the moment so I have decided to place a half bag of compost underneath the bulge to act as a cushion and support if it decides to lurch backward in the night. I should be able to take compost out of the bag gradually to lower it down as it grows hopefully. We shall see anyway. All I can do is try.
