Subject: when to set fruit?

when sould one look to set fruit? should the plant be 60 days old or should it be 300'sq? or should it be another age or size?

I think most will set fruit at or around the 60 day mark.

yeah, that sounds about right---if there are females to be pollinated, it is the right time! i have yet to see a pollinateable female flower before July 10th for me in NY, could be from too much fertilizer, but not a problem, yet!

Mr.T, I pitty the fool that doesn't fallow the vine and set fruit when the "chosen one" Blooms in the perfect location. I have set many pumpkins in mid June on 40 to 45 day old plants. The plants reproductive cycle is greatly influenced by horticurltural practices and climatic variations. P.S. Use four or five fresh males for pollination! Good luck........

I have been waiting for some one to use the line "I PITTY THA FOOL!".
From your diary it seems as if this female is out there pretty far on the main. As long as it is > 10' out you should be fine. Gad's has good advice about the multiple males for pollination. Look for a good stem to vine angle. Hope it isn't too hot down there.
