I have a 1596 Wallace x 1395 Wallace on the main vine and an open pollination(probably 1596 x self) on a secondary vine. The fruit on the secondary is growing faster than the one on the main vine. Which would you keep?

Do you want size or quality steve? How big are they now? I would go for size, myself. Randy

I would keep the fruit on the main. Most likely you'll end up with a bigger pumpkin and should have some nice seeds too.

I am down to one on a main vine now, but had 5 pollinated total, and have kept track of each of their growths. It seemed like the side vine pmpks would start faster, but the main vine ones would catch up around days 9 - 12. I culled my last back up on the side today and am sticking with my main vine. I think the majority of the time, they will get bigger on the main, but there are plenty of examples of side vines growing the big monsters. In summary, I have no idea what my point is.

The main on my marrow stopped giving me females to work with so I'm literally stuck with side vine fruits Whats the diff in seeds from a main vine fruit versus a sidevine fruit?

Billium, if controlled pollination took place, there should be "theoretically" no difference, in the seeds!!! Peace, Wayne

Steve, all I've heard is that side vine fruit tend to be fast out of the gate, but peter out after a month or so. I would probably keep the main vine fruit.

In the midst of a downpour, with rain streaming into my eyes as I pruned tertiaries, I cut the secondary with the 1596 Wallace x self cross(open pollination)by mistake.
@#$%^&*!!!
OH GREAT PUMPKIN, YOU'RE GOING TO DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!
