I would like to terminate one of my secondaries. What is the correct way to do this? What exactly do I cut off? The tip? The leaves? Then bury? Can you guys give me a step by step Thanks for everything so far this year Its been my best season yet so far.

This is how I do,,, people may very in their methods..
Okey first you can use a knife, but I like to just pinch them off,,, you see the bud? you want to cut ptetty close to the bud,,, say half an inch or closer,,,, once you have cut the bud off you can apply capton if you so choose,,, let the cut end air out for 2-3 days before burying it,,, also you can leave the cut end and not bury it,, just to have less chance of an infection....say,,leave six inches or so on top,,,,

I am still not getting it. Is the bud the tip? And if I cut off the tip, what about all the other stuff. The leaves, the tendrils? And how much? In other words, say I want to bury the last 12 inches of the secondary. Do I just cut everything off that 12 inches and just bury a bare vine? Also, Is there any chance that the buried 12 inches of bare vine will form roots, or is this just a myth?

I let the secondary vine grow a little over the edge of the patch so the vine is weighted down with a couple established leaves and go back about a foot and just snip the vine witha pair of scissors and bury the whole thing. The leaves at the end of the vine will continue to fill out the area. Good luck!

Back ground,,, you see you're suppose to bury the vines as they grow,,,,,, now you know what I mean when I say leave 6 inches uncovered,, to avoid infection............ Yes the vines that are buryed grow roots at every leaf node...... the bud( tip) is the cluster of leaves at the tip of every vine,,, just pinch that off,,,,, if you wanna deadhead the vine,,,,,,,

Picture is of a deadheaded vine,, see no more bud(tip)
hope that helped,,, good luck.....

Lol Nic you smarta$$. Problem was wally was in advanced vine termination when everyone should start in 101 which involves a sinister chop with a shovel.

I pinch just the small bunch of growing vine at the very end. I don't bury anything at the very end until I re-visit a couple of days afterwards. The only time I bury is if a taproot is showing. I like to have a leaf growing at the end of the vine... it gives that one extra leaf which always turns out to be huge! Terminate the very smallest part of the growing vine which has no distinct features. It just looks like a nodule of growing material. No need for Captan when you pinch such a small amount of material.

Did you see how that fella terminated his vine? Not exactly the gentle approach.
