I am thinking of turning up some of my nicely manicured back lawn so I can get two plants in this year. Gonna make it about 15 x 40 feet or so. What are my actual chances of pulling this off without having to sleep on the couch all summer? My wife doesn`t really understand my new obsession.

Tell her it'll save money you'd otherwise spend on gasoline for the mower. Just water at night with silent gear drives or soakers & throw the receipts for chemcials & fertilizer away. Buy small quantities each time & toss the empty container into your truck until you get to work. Use their garbage can. Always pay cash pumpkin stuff. Remove the price tag, roll the jar in some dirt, & tell the Mrs. you worked a deal on "old stock" that was marked for clearance.
Use your imagination. It's easier than cheatin'!

I knew a farmer who grew his corn right up to and arround the house-virtually eliminated lawn mowing! Maybe after telling her this, a mere 2 pumpkin plants can't sound so bad! Add the oxygen your plants will produce and the less pollution you'll be creating and you'll have it sewn up! (A little wining and dining and butt-kissin won't hurt either).
