Hello, this is my first post. I've learned a lot reading this website. I have a question that I couldn't find any info on. What is the best way to move your pumpkin when it is ready for a weigh in? Do you grow the pumpkin on a wooden pallet? Or something else that would make it easier to lift? I don't have any equipment for lifting a 1/2 ton pumpkin. thanks.

Most use a lifting tarp. P&P makes nice ones. Some clubs offer them too. GOOD FOR 500-700 LBS
We built our own lifting ring but these can be purchased as well. See my 2007 diary to see it in use. We also use it at our weigh off. GOOD FOR 700+ LBS
Poly tarps can be folded with golf balls and duct tape for handles. GOOD FOR UNDER 500 LBS
Then order pizza & beer, call the crew and have a lifting party!!!

I built a lifting tripod 2 years and I don't know how I got along without it. Three 16' treated 4x4 posts and a large threaded rod to hold them together at the top. A short piece of heavy chain to hand a 1 ton chain hoist. 6 nylon straps and heavy rope at the bottom. I can lift about any pumpkin by myself, but it is better if I have a couple helpers. I have about $120 total in the whole setup. You can find instructions on how to build a tripod from links to some other grower clubs. Do a search for tripod on this site and you should find information.
Around here the serious baseball fans prefer the Cardinals. The ones who like to come close but never win are Cubs fans.

I also drive a few rebars in the ground at the legs and tie the legs to them.
The pizza and beer are ceremonial.
