Does the pumpkin vine generally grow towards the sun? I have a 25 x 20 space but want to grow some other things in it. If I start the pumpkin in the northern end will it want to move south and east? And hopefully not further north.

generally vine will grow opposite first true leaf or third leaf overall, this is not always true but with training that is the direction it wants to go. also one plant will generally take up your whole space so if planting anything else keep it to the edge of plot.
