What is the general recommended timeframe for seed starting and seedling transplant for Southern Indiana?
I have read that earlier is worse than a little later in May for seedling transplanting.

I start mine inside about May 6th - 9nth and plant them out a few days after germination. You can plant them out earlier if you have hoop houses or other frost protection.

Most competitive growers usually shoot to transplant the seedling the first or second week of may, some will plant end of April.. the 15th as a unofficial cutoff date for transplanting.
I think the weather at the time plays a big role. I would porb. start seeds indoors end of April in 1 gal pots. they should be ready to transplant about 10-14 days after germination.
Don't leave them in pots to long, don't forget to harden them off, and if it gets below 45 at night you should have some sort of protection. (hoop house, cooler, platic tub.)don't forget to take off or open the protection during the day or you will cook your plant.

Thanks for the information......What is the recommended "harden off" process?
Do you gradually reduce the amount of artificial light and place the plants in a cooler environment?
