Hey...I am new to this site as well as any type of growing. I live in the city so I don't have that much space to work with. I would like to try to grow a (one) pumpkin next year (300# is my goal). What is the least amount of space I can possibly try to do this in? Thanks for your help.

They can be grown in as little as 250sq/ft. I grew at 400 and 500 this year and will increase to 750 next year. A small plant in my opinion is fine if nothing goes wrong. I severely burnt one of my plants with liquid sevin, if it had been smaller it would have probibly really stunted it. Me personally 400 is as small as I would go. Just my 2 pennys though. Rick

I plan on growing three plants next year two will be on 500 sq. ft. each, and one about 250 sq. ft. that one will be the flag shape (secondarys on one side only). I say go for it you'll miss out of too much fun if you don't.

I've got a 300 pounder right now on 200-250 square feet of plant. Though I've heard of bigger ones being grown on smaller plants. Just keep reading through these boards this winter so you can try to maximize your space's potential. Plenty of fine folks on here are willing to help if you have any questions. And check and see if your library has Don Langevin's 'How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins' books, #2 to be exact since they aren't likely to have his newest one yet. Brian

2 years ago I grew 694 pounds on 250 feet of plant in a flag pattern. The key is taking however much space you have and getting the max out of it. Do your homework now and prepare your patch now. Don't wait until spring to get started.

Page around in my diary for more pictures of the area the pumpkin grew in and pictures of it at the fair. It was estimated to go 900 had I left it on the vine until now. I cut it with 700 pounds toward the end of August.
I do hope this gives you fellas encouragement that have small gardens like I do. The 904 Stelts seed she grew on was a pocket rocket all the way to the end!
