Hi. here is my concern. my big one is up over 1100 pounds now and seems to still be posting margainal gains. However our contest is not until mid october - the 15th. it is starting to cantelope a lot but all looks healthy - except for the plant. it looks like hell hahaha. can it just stay on the vine even if it stops growing or something like this. also does anyone know how these long wide ones weigh. it seems like it looks heavier than this weight but honestly i have no idea of what i am talking about at all on this sort of thing hahaha. steve

long ,wide and low pumpkins are a good bet to weigh more than they tape. a healthy pumpkin on a healthy plant can last for a very long time in most cases.there are no guarentees but ?
several years ago we had a pumpkin stop growing in mid august. we left it hooked up to a single main vine with aboyt ten leaves on it. ( just for the hell of it ) that pumpkin at in the patch, in the sun, until october. then we sold it for a porch pumpkin. got the pyumpkin back in november and it was still in great shape.
however if your plant and pumpkin is suspect with health issues? id get her to a weigh-off. its a crap shoot.
