Hi all back again a little concerned that I am not getting the growth that I should my pumpkin is set out at 24' because of previous aborting problems and is 21 days today, it's 55" circ. and seems to only be putting on a couple of inches a day, I am feeding with neptunes and a little 20-20 every couple of days and it's been 100 during the day and 70 or so at night, am I out of line to think that it should be growing faster than this

Are you doing anything to help the plant in the heat, and are you shading the fruit somehow?

Against anything over 85f the plant needs some help to make gains against heat and sun.

Yes, I have shade over the entire patch and every half hour misting it seems like not much growth in the day more after it cools a bit, would potash help or is that a mistake?

too early for potash............but just my opinion, i am no expert at this obsessive hobby.

nascar fan, I can't remember are you using proven seeds or store bought? If store bought that could account for slow growth.

I am using an 1194 Pitura and a 1346 Pitura got them from Tom Beachy, I don't know if they are any good for the weather we have here but when your just starting out I was thinking that it might be a good gamble.I think that I am averaging about 6 to 7 pounds a day now, it is going to be a little cooler for the next few days so maybe business will pick up

I have been reading a ton of past posts and have read some say that using 0-0-50 would be a good option to help plant growth, now some of these posts are a few years old and I just wonder if this still holds true

Potash is normally used towards the end of the growing season to finish ripening the pumpkin. You don't want to do thatto soon. You shouldn't be worried about plant growth now. Sounds like you have plenty of plant. If you have not done so go ahead and dead end your side vines. Let the nutrients go to the fruit not the plant. Like Pap says, "we are not growing salad". Maybe use some phosphorous to help the fruit growth.

Hoots dirt, thanks for the info I guess I am getting a little impatient, Even though I have never really done this before I have probably read too much for my own good

Regarding the store-bought seeds, what is a good rate of growth for those? I'm getting 7-8 pounds per day. Should I expect more than that?

My 1346 has been aborting every attempt since June, just as I was about to give up and pull the plant,30 feet out I pollinated one more, that was 11 days ago, circ. measurement this morning is 43" hope this one takes none of the other pollinations made it this far.
