I think I read somewhere that blooms attract beetles and should be removed. My question is the details. Ive been pinching off the spent blooms every afternoon but should I be cutting them stem and all or just cutting the flower head? Should I be cutting them before or after they bloom??

Tammy, if you have yer pkn set...and no longer need any pollen...pinch em off as soon as they are big enough to pinch!!! Prbly several days before the flower opens!!! This prbly means, you would be pinchin em when they are a 1/2" size or less!!!! Just think of all that growing power, now going into yer pkn, instead of them flowers!!! Remember the key..."after you have a pkn SET" !!! Grow em BIG, Peace, Wayne

oh my!! Im way off track!! I have 4 pumpkins set (one for each vine) and Im pinching off 10-15 blooms a day AFTER they bloom! ooops
Thanks Wayne :)
BTW I know why bees are becoming fewer... the dang things are getting their greedy lil butts caught inside pumpkin blooms! LOL I cant tell you how many closed blossoms Ive picked with a bee (or two) trapped inside!
