Hi. Well as the patch starts to take off so apparantly do the problems hahaha. I accidentally spilled a bit of water in the hole at top of stump last night on one of my plants - perhaps the best one. This afternoon I noticed a tiny bit of foam in that hole. Is this what they mean by foaming stump. Is it serious? How can I correct it? The plant looks fine and the pumpkin is growing about 20 pounds per day but I only spilled it on last night. Thanks. Steve

Okay. It is dry and I hate say how it got that way hahahaha. I started by twisting up long thin pieces of paper towel and soaking it out that way but I could see water in there. So I went to plan B and let no one say we don't want to win hahahaha. I stuck a straw all the way to bottom of hole in stump and sucked the rest of the water out with the straw hahahaha. There was about half a cup in there that took about three mouthfuls to get out. Needless to say a lot of gargling and a few toothbrushings later I am hoping it is dry in the morning and I don't need to do that again. Next time I should probably just cut off the stump hahahaha. Your my hero estaban! Never let it be said you have not done all you could!!!
Use captan powder, mix it with small amounts of water until it forms a thick paste. Then fill in the crack. Maybe take a qtip first and wipe down inside with some 10% blech (10% bleach with 90% water). Let it dry and you should be ok. Keep some plastic or somthing over that area of the stump to keep it dry.

Fantastic. Thanks. I also backed up the water that was around that area quite a bit to see if that slows down the intake. I got another 1/4 cup out of there a couple hours later - same method hahaha. The reason I mention it is if it works someone else can fix theirs that way too. No foam at all though when I went back and water/root juice (hahahahaha) level was way down the second time. Steve

sucking the water out with a straw into your mouth? are you shittin us?
we have had foaming stumps several times in the past. best way to keep the stump as long as possible into the season is to drill a hole through the bottom of the stump just below the hole, clean out some soil under the hole for drainage, and then you can flush it out with any fungicide or anto bacterial flush.
you need to allow for a way to let the built up water and foam drain from the stump. if not you will be sucking on a straw every day until your teeth fall out-----lol

Not many times I laugh out loud while reading posts on pumpkin forums, but I did it twice here.
1. Just the thought of sucking out pumpkin slop and getting MOUTHFULS of it in the process. THREE mouthfulls? Bwaaaa hahahah.
2. To quote Pap "are you shittin us"?

Well the stump juice was back today so I drained it out again - same method - I am sort of acquiring a taste for it. It tastes like chicken hahahaha - actually more like raw potatoes hahahaha. I will attempt the drilling a bit lower on the stump and also maybe clearing a bit of dirt away from stump to see if that helps. The cavity in the stump goes down about 7" inches though and it had about 1/2 a cup in their today. Well I am glad someone is able to laugh at my tragidy hahahaha. Steve

Steve, you've got me really worried. The foaming stump isn't a soda....it's disease! Go to Walmart and buy a turkey baster to drain the liquid.

A siphoner would work, the kind you use for siphoning (can't spell) gas, some of them have crank handles you just wind it.

Howdy. I dug away a lot of the dirt around it to below the point of bottom of cavity inside stump and then drilled a hole at bottom. I am letting it dry out in sun now and then will spray a ton of anti fungal foot powder in there. The pumpkin on there is still putting on about 20 pounds a day though. It is our smallest at this point is really starting to take off - it is two weeks or so younger than the others but not far behind them - about 150 pounds. I want to make sure we keep this one going but I am guessing because the plant is so big that it many of the other root areas are supporting it now anyhow. Steve
