I just pulled into my driveway to find a half an inch of hail in the yard......AND a destroyed pumpkin patch. Lost some vines and every leaf has dozens of holes in them from the hail. All that work down the drain. This ^&%$&%* weather is really getting annoying. 30 something days of wet ^%$&$$ gloom and now a hailstorm.I don't know if the plants can recover with all the holes in the leaves.

we got hit twice last year with hail. the plants looked like swiss cheese however new growth was ok plus the leaves with holes still held up for most of the season.
its not the end just the begining.

With all the holes in the leaves, how does this affect the vines/plant on a go forth basis?

lis the atlantic giant plant is like no other plant in the world ( that i know of anyway )
after pulling plants in the fall when you go back a few days later and look at the pile pf plants you dumped in the woods? you will see vines are still trying to grow and flowers are opening .
just grow some more plant, id even let third stage growth grow out as well. get a bush for the fruit to feed off of.
better than quiting.

I had a bush zucchini plant get completely severed from its roots during a wind storm last Monday and fifteen minutes afterward just for kicks I stuck the severed stem back in the ground and watered it. And even though probably 90% of the plant died, the growing tip survived and the plant is now rebounding! I think that hardiness extends to most all cucurbits!

No I won't be giving up, as I still have male flowers opening up, although the entire swiss cheese like patch is an eyesore with all the holes in the leaves. Should I snip off the leaves that got hit extremely hard? There are a couple leaves that are nothing but skeletal remains. New growth is still coming out though, at the end of the main and secondaries too.
