Hi All,
I'm completely new to this but thrilled to be in on something like this! My mom got some seeds from a guy that had a 6 hundred something pound pumpkin- it was sitting in front of a restraurant and she asked him for seeds becuase she thought I'd enjoy it.... she was right!
I got five seeds, two actually sprouted, my vines are in the "pumpkin patch" and currently growing like weeds. We got the house this year so I was a bit behind in actually getting compost/manure/fertilizer, and the neighbor had a small seasoned stock pile that he let me have some of so I didn't burn everything up. The vines are currently ~10-15 feet long. The howdens that are planted in there are easily about 30 feet.
The howdens are growing in opposite directions of the "giants" We've fought off cucumber beetles (sprayed) and are getting the first howdens, however the giants only have male flowers. Am I doing something wrong with the giants?
