I have a pumpkins starting to grow, one is about 10 feet away and the other is 16 feet away. Is it better to be farther away or somewhere in the middle.

From what I have read many times here, leave the 16 footer and axe the 10.

Also once you cut the 10 off, keep cutting any new females that show up the remainder of the season!

If it is well paced on the vine, go with the 16.

The optimum range seems to be between 12-16ft. The safest bet is to have an insurance policy, I myself start pollinating at 10ft and keep going until I have 3 or so on the main to choose from. It would suck to cut that 10footer off then have the 16fter abort or not take. even when you think you have one going these small (usually under 50-75lbs) pumpkins can about.
I would suggest setting every female on the main from 10ft out then after they are going take into account positioning, shape, and rate of growth to make your decision on the chosen one.
you can also set one on the first secondary as a later insurance policy. It takes a lot of work to get a plant to pollination time, I don't want to see all that green with no pumpkin on it.
