about one foot out on the main stem my stem cracked from me trying to rush laying it down! still has some stem holding on,1/4 of it. I propped it back up & removed a heavy leaf. any thing more I can do? will it heal or is it done?

Did it break along the length of the stem or did it break perpendicular to the stem? A lot of the time these things will heal if it isn't to bad. If it is a bad break it will be okay. What you will want to do is create a new main from one of the side vines. I had to do that at this time last year after hail damage destroyed my main. You wouldn't have ever known the difference.

if you broke it while attempting to pin down the main then id expect the split runs perpendicular ( i hope avandaboy spelled it right cause i copied him-lol ) id say go to the first and best looking secondary before the split and train that for your main vine, terminate the main just AFTER the secondary you choose. i have tried severak times to reconnect mains that have snapped and while it may continue to grow via taping or any other connecting devise? it will always be a weak spot and also never grow like a normal main. just my observations.
also todd thank you for joining the sngpg. your newsletter went in the mail today
