I'm trying to find out when the first flower blooms usually. I want to know for the plants that I'm growing for pollination only, they will be grown until I use a flower of theres to pollinate another plant and then they get yanked (no room) have'nt grown enough to have a good idea of when. I want to know how long to wait tell planting them. Thank You

Stressed out they'll flower early. Male flowers are 'easy' and they can come very early. Females take longer to show up. You can always plant your pollenators and trim them back to keep them in bounds until you pollenate.

I have one going. The other is not doing so well, I have two of the seeds (the one that still does'nt look so healthy), I'm just debating weather I have time to start another seed.

milford, CT,

Richard..If you transpanted early May..and the plant is growing at a "normal"speed...I would figure you'd see the 1st males flowers @ June 15th-20th...1st female @ 10 days later.. Mark

If you want to know what genes are in the seeds inside the pumpkin you grow, you have to cover the male and female the day before they open so the bees can't get there, then do the deed yourself and recover up the female for a few days. Most of us want to hand select and improve the genes so we play bee ourself.
