Just wondering if I doomed three plants. they are fading in order of how long before transplanted.

Depends on the size of your pot and how old your plants are.

I usually use nursery pots, cut sides then tape them shut until planting...

1 gallon=4-6 days
3.5 gallon=6-10 days
5 gallon=11-14 days

Peat pots are usually 4" or smaller (one quart or smaller) and get to be too small in a few days IMO.

Get them IN the ground as soon as possible and they might be salvaged. Dunno how much they've been affected though.

They are actually in the ground for a while now. They all got bigger and stronger. Now, one (regular pumpkin) died during heavy rain. Big max is now flowering and one leaf is dying, and the Atlantic giant is showing early flower buds, but one cot leaf is dead. They are suffering proportion to how long it took me to plant them. Some of the earliest roots turned brown while sticking through the 4 inch peet pots. I think that is what stunted the growth.

Regular (Dead): Planted at 4 leaf stage.

Big max (flowering/dying leaf): Planted at 3 or 4 leaf stage.

Giant Atlantic (flowering): Planted at 3 leaf stage.


At this point, I've replaced the regular with a healthier new seedling which is in the 4 leaf stage. I clipped the flowers off the Big Max, and the buds off the Dill.

You know what I find funny. I grew two regular pumpkin seedlings, and only transplanted one. The one in the peet pot is still in it for over a month, and outlasted the transplanted one. It has two rotting leaves, and flowered, but it is still going. We'll see how long it lasts just for fun.
