Hey Folks,
My seeds sprouted and seem to be stuck. The sprouts popped up partially and haven't straghtened up and opened. They seem have been in the same position for a few days. They are on grow mats in a covered planter with grow lights. The temp is about 80. Should I be worried that they seem to have stopped or is this common?
Thanks, Dan

Are the seedcases off? Sometimes you carefully have to do seedcase surgery and remove the case... being very very careful not to break off the roots!

Dan, if they have popped out of the soil you need to get the bottom heat off of them and get them under a light source. This will encourage them to grow upward.

Dan, sometimes the seed case is stuck in the potting mix(dirt) which wont let the seedling pop up. I have also had roots grow over the top of my seed cots before that wouldn't let them pop up also.

I pulled them off of the heat mat and have the lamp right over top of them. They haven't shown any improvement. They look good except that they haven't grown at all since they sprouted, which was Sunday. I am thinking I might not have pumpkins this year :(

I had a bitch of a time germinating this year and have seen a lot of posts from others that have had problems. I had enough good seeds to hopefully be alright, but I don't think I had even a 50% success rate.

Dan, you don't say if they have the seedcases off or not. They can often stall right there as they can't get the case off by themselves....

They weren't able to get the cases off completely, they stalled as they were coming out of them. I gently pulled off the cases. I carefully dug one of the seedlings up to examine the roots. They are all very thin and short. I used miraclegrow potting soil mixed with myco, and a little fertilizer. Is it possible that the roots didn't like the soil?

Dan, possible...most use a sterilized starting mix, which contains no Miracle grow!!! Lot's do add a lil myco, but the seed itself has enough energy in it to get it's self up and started. Hope this helps!! Peace, Wayne PS...did you file seed edges b/4 starting?
