When the plant is big enough. Do not bury the main vine adjacent to the main root, basal crown area. Leave at least a foot uncovered so the air can flow under the main when it first falls over...you don't want the stump rotting out and you want to keep an eye out for foaming stump and such...start burying the 2ndaries once they touch the ground near the stump and everything gets buried once you start covering your main passed the 1ft marker onward....don't bury when you start pollinating though bec you will have to dig up afterwards and clip tap roots once the kins start growing and remember s-curves....

Do we bury the vines to protect the plant from (wind) or to get more food sources for the plant via the tap roots. this i am really trying to understand. is the whole vine buried or just sections? Do i dig a small tench under the vine or just place a shovel full of dirt on it? please advise.
