Is there a certain type of light to use because I feel my lights are drying out my pots to quickly.

I use 4' fluorescent grow/aquarium lights about an inch from the tops. The fluorescent lights don't give off heat, so it shouldn't dry out your mix. Havn't had a problem with them getting leggy.

waynena, if you are using peat pots...the pots themselves will wick moisture out of the soil...someone recently suggested putting the peat pots inside of plastic baggies to contain (and recycle, I guess) the moisture!!! Peace, Wayne

Wayne, I was wondering the same thing because the peat pots do suck the moisture out of the starter mix. Back to the question. I have used regular flourescent lights with good results.

thanks everyone for the help. With everyone's help I went to the hydroponics store and bought a seedling heat mat with a thermostat, and a fluorescent light and its seems to be a lot better. I have one more question do seeds germinate better in a humid area.

Soaking the peat pots completely before adding soil mix should stop that moisture from wicking out.
