Thanks to the generosity of Jos from Belgium, I have about 16 or so seeds from 8 or 9 different pumpkins. Any tips on how to choose which one to plant?

First, decide what you want to grow for? Is it size, color, or genetic traits or a combination of traits.
Then investigate which seeds have the traits you are looking for in a pumpkin.

Take a look at how big the progeny are for the seeds on www.pumpkinlink.com (if the seeds have been planted yet). Sometimes it doesn't tell the whole story, but if you see a few pumpkins over 1,000 pounds that were grown from the same seed then you know the seed has some potential.

Okay, I'll post the seeds here. This is the first year I'm trying to grow a big pumpkin, so I think I'm probably interested in getting something of a decent size but I know I won't have the time to commit to anything really serious this year (baby due middle of summer), it's more for a bit of fun and to try and get some of the techniques down.

Here's all the information I have for each seed pack:
764 Sandvik 08 f=1502 wallace 06, m=1407 hempphill 06
876 Sandvik 08 f=1446 werner 06, m=1502 wallace 06
979 Berrens 07 f=955 Brinkly, m=1302 Zuhlke, 14% heavy, completely orange
2 packs of 1058 GHAYE 08, 877 ghaye * 1502 wallace
1058.5 Timm 06 1031.5 Timm 05 * 1446 Eaton 04
1129 Crews 08 est. f=964 Wolf, m=1137.5 Crews
1297 Ghaye 07, f=998 Pukos selfed

I have an area about 30-40m2, or 355-430square feet to use, but I don't know if I'm better off just concentrating on one plant this year. I'm open to opinions, suggestions, good jokes, etc.

Oh, and when I say decent size, for me as a newbie, that means anything more than 100lb would impress me enough to keep going next season. I know that's not much to expect, but I don't want to get too excited just yet. Nice colour would be an added bonus.

Hi , i have about 60 m² for two plants this year, about 350 sqft per plant, it depends how long and wide you have, if it is long patch, you can put about two plants.

If it is a square you must be concentrated on one plant only, but you can have fun with more plants if you just start, best, stéphane. Good luck !

The 979 Berrens & the 1297 Ghaye look good. Both could be big & orange.

I would start all three that both Richard and Tarps suggested then pick the best two. Leave the third as a back up just in case one doesn't come up or one doesn't look well.

The 1297 would be my first pick and I also like the 876.
