Is it preferred to start the AG seeds indoors? Or is it better to sow directly in the ground when things warm up a bit?

Start indoors, you can control the direction of the plant this way. The plant will sprout 2 leafs,then the plant will grow a third leaf, the plant will grow (the main vine) in the direction opposite the third leaf that sprouts.

Also by starting inside, you know what's come up and what hasn't, it's easier to get them to sprout and come up.

I tried the outdoor direct method when i first came upon this site, they can sprout, but it can take a couple of weeks, which if the seeds do not sprout you are behind. look at the seed sprouting section there is a lot of info. most of us make some type of incubator.

lisfisher..I also live in Ct..Milford if you didn't figure it out...Start your seeds the last week of April....transplant @May 5th into a coldframe. If you are not going to protect the seedling, start seeds @ May 10th and transplant @ May 20th. Even the later date still might have a chance of a late frost and you might have to protect the seedlings. Method # 1 is the preferred because it gives you a better chance of pollinating before those 90 degree plus days arrive (lots of aborts above 90 deg) Mark
