This years auction season is upon us so in keeping with the BP mission statement I am posting a list of lesser known 2007 seedstock that grew at least 1 pumpkin over 1300lbs. this year. Hopefully some of these will show up at auction at a bargain price and be every bit as good as the Big buck seeds. All of these are proven 2007 seeds. 1376 Bobier, 1248 Swartz, 1263 Speakman, 1180 Krug, 850 Slusarek, 1188 Paton, 1206 Kline, 1378 Pitura, 1139 Glasier, 999 Sherwood, 1098 Picketts and 986 Papez

Hi. Is there a place on the site to learn how to collect and dry seeds from our pumpkins. We would like to keep the strain and are not really sure how to collect and prepare them properly. Thank you. Steve

Steve, cut open pumpkin, and slip all the seeds from the stringy stuff. The stringy will be in strips on inside of outer shell from stem to blossom end, and seeds will be facing the outer shell. Remove every bit of the pulp stringy you can. If it has sprouted or split open, toss that seed. Arrange in a single layer on window screen in a frame so they don't touch and put where air can circulate around them for at least two weeks, and things like bugs and mice can't get at them. Turn/stir them every few hours for the first day and rearrange as needed. Stir every day or every few days after that. They should be dry in 2-4 weeks. They will have a sort of nearly transparent papery 'skin' that should come right off, then mark the seeds and sort. An ultra fine point Sharpie will work well. Put weight of pumpkin and year (08) on the seed. Anything hollow, discard. Store in baggies in cool place away from mice.
Thank you Ron for the list of 2007 underrated seeds.

I must have missed the transition from 1,000# fruit to 1300# fruit for proving seeds

I here you Dan. There are many good 1000 lb producers out there. They probably all have the potentual to grow 1500 lbs in the right hands.

There are plenty more seeds that grew 1 over 1000 but I didn't want to make the list too long. Some people, and I won't mention names LOL, have really raised the bar the last few years with those 1500 and 1600lbers.
