At what point do you start applying 0-0-50 to soil around plant? i have heard applying to soon causes pumpkin to mature to soon.

I just applied some two days ago. But then again I have no idea what I'm doing, this is my first year growing. One thing I can say is do not get this stuff on the leaves, as it will burn them badly. I broadcasted some over my cucumber patch and wiped out the entire patch.

You can get it on the leaves, but wash it off immediately.
If you don't know how much K is in your soil I wouldn't recommend blindly applying 0-0-50.

5 lbs for that small area is too much. If you were going to, go with 2 pounds per 700 sq ft. plant, but not until September.

Agreed with Jordan, 5 lbs is abit much for 400 sq ft.
On an earlier posting pap was advising 2 lbs per plant applied every 2 weeks. I usually don't add 0-0-50 till mid September but always rely on my spring soil test in advance of any late additions.
