i finally have my best pumpkin picked out and i cut the others off.
i thought i read once that you should cut the vine growth after the fruit so that the energy goes to the fruit and not to growing more vines. is this true, or do the roots and leves that grow after the fruit send good stuff back toards the fruit?

Both the front and back vines will feed the pumpkin. A lot of growers will terminate all of the vines about 30 days after pollination. A lot depends on how the plant is doing. I have one good one 29 days old, on a huge plant, and all but the main and a couple of secondaries are terminated. I want to make sure I have some leaves that will last until end of season. I have another good one on a very small plant, and I will let those vines go a while longer. I am in a deep valley and lose the early and late sun, so I need plenty of leaves to get sun while they can.
