If you use over head sprinklers, does the cold water getting on the pumpkin slow the growth down? I know cooler nights slows them down. I was thinking the colder water might have the same effect.

So is the "heating the water" in barrels or other means out the window. I thought i heard that using water that may be closer to air temps was good? Not that cooler water was bad (rain is usually cooler). Just curious

dave, i think you may be referring to when plants are young, the warm water helps absorption of nutrients to the plant

I am a first time grower in KY. I am not sure I fully understand how to measure to get the weight. Could someone possibly send me a diagram showing how to properly measure. I guess I just didn't get it right from the instructions on the home page. Please Help. I want to get this right and hopefully do well. I have put plastic screen and a couple inches of sand under the 2 pumpkins I do have to assist with drainage. My e-mail is pottery@logantele.com If not a diagram if someone has pictures of someone measuring it would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Dan Draper Adairville, KY

I just caught on to this myself, 2nd year grower. 3 different measurements for OTT, 1,center-wrap tape measure around the middle of pumpkin parrell to ground, imagine the top of the pumpkin a mans head, the bottom a mans feet, wrap the tape like its a belt. 2, stem to blossom, put one end of the tape on the ground bring tape over the top to the ground by the blossom. 3 from the ground on the side up and over to the other side ground. Add these up, thats the OTT..At least I think, mabe if this is wrong someone will correct it.
